This Hogfish by Mark Gottschalk of The Wooden Fish Market is an amazing work of art & the perfect gift for an enviromentalist and fisherman alike!
Each sculpture is constructed of 13ply Baltic Birch Plywood. I start by sketching the idea, then creating the design in a computer graphics program. The program creates a file that allows me to cut the piece on a wooden cnc router that I built just to produce these fish. After the pieces are rough cut, the layers are laminated together and shaped to their final contour.
The fish was stained with acrylic washes and two coats of acrylic lacquer have been applied over the surface. The plywood often contains voids in the veneers which show up as small gaps in the thin layers. They can occur anywhere in the piece. I like what they bring to work.... an unpredictable quality that adds to its appeal. The hanger allows the piece to "float" away from the wall by about an inch. The "float" creates an interesting shadow effect and more visual volume.
Each piece is signed and dated on the back and comes complete with the wall hanger, screws, and related hardware. A screw driver is required to attach the hanger to the wall. Simple assebly is need on this piece. The piece is shipped fully crated to prevent damage during shipping.
Dimensions: 34" wide x 22 1/4" high x 2 1/4" thick. The face stands 3 1/4" from the wall.
Each fish is available as shown or in custom color combinations. Colors can be chosen for the main body of the fish, the fins, and the accent dots. See the image above for color aoptions & choose from the drop-down menu above or visit Custom Design Center
